Set yourself up for productivity! Here are 5 daily habits to develop:
1) Wake up early and talk with God about your day. Submit to Him and let Him lead. Waking up early exposes you to more daylight, adds hours to your day, and naturally cultivates productivity. Not a morning person? Maybe time to retrain your body! (it can be done!) Early to bed, early to rise. New habits = new results!
2) Write out your goals and keep them in sight. Write out the ideas, visions, and dreams God has given you, no matter how big and wild they may seem today. When you see your goals every day, you’re more motivated to work towards them, and it prevents burnout. Write down your progress, too! Remember what God called you to and how He’s provided for you along the way.
3) Prioritize your tasks. Not everything is urgent. Your to-do list shouldn’t overwhelm you. He called you to it, He will equip you for it. Put all your to-dos in one list. Order the to-dos from most to least important. For everything on your list, decide if it needs to be DONE ASAP, DEFERRED until later, DELEGATED to someone else, or DELETED. Indicate if it has a due date or is dependent on another task. An organized and prioritized to-do list will help you focus on the most important tasks one at a time, and feel less overwhelmed. Cast your anxiety on Him!
4.) Minimize distractions. Multitasking might be actually preventing you from being productive. Minimize distractions as much as possible: turn off phone notifications, close tabs, turn Netflix off. Keep your eyes fixed on what God has called you to. Remember you are glorifying Him in your work.
5.) Drink water, eat well, and rest. We love coffee, too. But our bodies need water. Switch from caffeine to water at some point while you’re working. Even mild dehydration impairs cognitive performance. Fuel your body with nutritious foods, and make time to sit down and eat a proper meal. Working lunches are great, but give yourself permission to stop working when you’re eating. And rest. The world won’t fall apart if you fall asleep. Practice good stewardship of your body and mind, and Jesus will strengthen you.
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” -Colossians 3:23-24
