a friend came to me the other day for advice. i was hoping she needed advice for what to cook in her Crockpot (everything), how to teach long division (Khan Academy), or how to clean the house without chemicals (vinegar).
but no. she wanted some advice on blogging. Lord, bless her.
i listened as my friend shared how she wants to use her blog to encourage others and glorify God. she has a big heart, a strong passion for the gospel, and a URL. she wants to be bold on her blog, unashamedly sharing how God is working in her life.
“as long as i have this space,” she said, “i want to make sure i’m using it wisely.”
i was all, “yes!” and “go for it!” and “absolutely!” but she wanted more from me than affirmation. she wanted some kind of guidance and words of wisdom. she didn’t need a cheerleader. she needed someone to point her in the right direction. she was questioning her purpose, her voice, her worthiness, her abilities. she was even questioning the name of her blog.
after recommending she buy a ticket to the Declare Conference immediately (wink), the best advice i could come up with was:
“pray for your blog.”
and when i said it, when i gave her that simple advice for her blog, her shoulders dropped, she leaned back in her seat, and she sighed as if it was exactly what she needed to hear.
pray over your blog. God is absolutely able to use us and our webspace to His glory! pray He gives you the words to type. pray He gives you the time to do blog! pray for the people who read it. pray to be used. your blog isn’t small or insignificant. dedicate it to the Lord and be amazed at what He can do. let Him be your editor-in-chief, your illustrator, your inspiration, your Counselor! before you hit the Publish button, pray for everyone who clicks to Read More.
pray at all times. even when (especially when!) you’re blogging. my advice to her wasn’t original at all. i heard it from Paul in Ephesians 6…
“Pray at all times
on every occasion, in every season.
Keep alert and watch
with strong purpose and perseverance,
interceding in behalf of all of God’s people.
And pray also for me,
that the words may be given me,
that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly
the mystery of the good news of the Gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in prison.
Pray that I may declare it boldly and courageously, as I ought to do.”
