{Don’t miss the fun announcement at the end of the post!}
My social media job has me in the book of Acts. My HelloMornings plan has me in Acts. Even the IF:Gathering community has spent the summer in Acts.
Apparently, it’s the summer of Acts.
There is much for us to learn from the early church, even truths which relate to our blogging world. These first church leaders were certainly a bold and active bunch, yet something else stands out to me about them: they were relentless in declaring God’s work among them.
City after city, the leaders faithfully and boldly ministered to those who followed “The Way” of Jesus. City after city, they pointed not to themselves and their ministry, but to God’s work among them. City after city, the people praised God as a result of their visit.
We are vessels, you and I. Masterpieces made specifically for a purpose. Your ministry, your blog, your purpose online was prepared in advance by God for you to walk into. (See Ephesians 2:10.) As we find that purpose and walk in it, God puts us up for display to the world around us. Not so others can look and see our works, but to glory in the work God is doing in and through us.
God accomplishes. We are thoroughfares.
“…[Paul] related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. And when they heard it, they glorified God.” Acts 21:19-20
The example of these early church leaders begs the question:
What am I declaring?
You and I are leaders. You may not think of yourself as one, but as a blogger, you lead others. In this light, here are a few evaluation questions regarding our role on the web:
- As a masterpiece of God, do I walk with boldness into the corner of the blogging world I’ve been called to?
- Do I work to show off myself or my Master?
- Does my work online result in the praise of God? (This doesn’t mean that your blog has to be spiritual in nature, but does your working on it bring Him glory to those around you? Especially to your family?)
Let’s consider and discuss together in the comments.
Fun Announcement
The time for us to gather is almost here! I am looking forward to our keynote speakers, as I’m sure they will bring encouragement to our heart and point us to Jesus. In view of bringing home part of the Wild Obedience experience, I’ve been working on a little something for all the Declare Conference peeps this year.
Yep, our very own Declare Bible study! This is a three week topical Bible study on what it means to have Wild Obedience. I can’t wait to dig into the Word with you!
Details for distribution will be announced later, but you can expect the study the week after Declare. Who’s excited?!
